Under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and in the presence of Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi, Social Development Minister, the annual "This is Bahrain" festival was held at the Bahrain National Stadium on the occasion of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s celebration of its National Day to commemorate the establishment of the modern Bahraini state as a Muslim Arab state by its founder Ahmed Al Fateh in 1783, and the anniversary of the accession of His Majesty the King to the throne. The event featured participation from embassies, foreign communities, clubs, schools, and civil society organizations. He noted that the event demonstrates Bahrain’s achievements across various sectors, promoting its image as a nation that values human dignity and peace. He underscored the ministry’s dedication to supporting initiatives, in line with HM the King's vision to enhance Bahrain’s regional and international position. The festival included activities showcasing Bahrain’s cultural and religious diversity, such as artistic and heritage performances, a Bahraini handicrafts exhibition, and speeches by religious and social figures emphasizing national unity.

Social Development Minister inaugurates Mubarak Jassim Kanoo Centre

Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi, Minister of Social Development, inaugurated the Mubarak Jassim Kanoo Comprehensive Social Centre in Sanabis. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Capital Governor; MP Jalila Alawi Al Sayyed; members of the Kanoo family; and other officials attended the event. The minister highlighted the centre’s role as a model for community partnership, reflecting Bahrain’s development goals under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He commended Kanoo family for their contributions to national initiatives and charitable projects that benefit the community. Khalid Mohamed Kanoo, Group Chairman of YBA Kanoo, emphasised the group’s commitment to supporting community projects in memory of the late Mubarak Jassim Kanoo. Fawzi Ahmed Kanoo, Vice Chairman, said the centre as a landmark initiative offering integrated social services to diverse segments of society. The centre, a collaboration between public and private sectors, features facilities such as a family care centre, counselling services, and programmes for productive families, reflecting Bahrain’s commitment to enhancing social development.

Social Development Undersecretary attends International Volunteer Day celebration

Sahar Rashid Al Mannai, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development, attended a celebration organised by the Bahrain Voluntary Work Society to honour volunteers who collectively completed over 9,500 hours of voluntary work in 2024. The event, held at Al Ayam Press Foundation in Janabiya in conjunction with International Volunteer Day, brought together officials, civil society organisations, and individuals involved in voluntary work. Al Mannai emphasised the society’s pivotal role in advancing voluntary work and fostering a culture of giving in Bahrain. She highlighted the significance of celebrating International Volunteer Day as a reflection of generosity, solidarity, and humanitarian values. She commended the volunteers’ exceptional efforts, noting that their achievement of over 9,500 voluntary hours stands as a testament to their dedication and commitment to serving the community. She reaffirmed the Ministry’s support for initiatives that promote voluntary work, viewing it as a cornerstone of sustainable development and a noble mission that embodies cooperation and solidarity. Hassan Eid Bu Khammas, Member of Parliament and Honorary President of the Bahrain Voluntary Work Society, commended the society’s 12 years of achievements, which have strengthened community partnerships and advanced Bahrain’s development in line with Vision 2030. Abdulaziz Rashid Al Sanadi, Chairman of the Bahrain Voluntary Work Society, reviewed the society’s key projects and reiterated its commitment to sustainable development through voluntary initiatives. Dr. Hassan Ibrahim Kamal, Secretary-General of the Bahrain Philanthropic Society, commended the Bahrain Voluntary Work Society’s recognition of activists in voluntary work, describing volunteering as a fundamental pillar of comprehensive development. Enmaa Center for Special Education organizes the annual graduation ceremony for 20 disabled students

Ms. Zainab Salman Alawainati, Assistant Undersecretary for Rehabilitation and Welfare at the Ministry of Social Development, attanded the annual graduation ceremony at Enmaa Center for Special Education for 20 students, at the Dar Al-Manar Association for Parents Care Hall in Isa Town. The ceremony began with a speech delivered by Alawanati, praising the efforts and achievements of center, in order to provide a comprehensive educational and developmental environment that enables students to achieve their goals. Mrs. Alawainati pointed : "Today is your day, and it is the day of harvesting your hard work and effort. You are an example to be followed in terms of determination and patience, and you have proven that challenges are nothing but a new opportunity to show your strength and creativity." She also thanked the parents, who were the first support and backer of their children in their educational journey. Enmaa Center for Special Education holds an annual graduation ceremony for students who have been rehabilitated and received the necessary services from specialized programs by the trained and qualified empoyees at the center. The center seeks, through its vision and mission, to achieve its most important goals, which are the integration of people with disabilities into all aspects of community life.

Bahrain wins top award at GCC theatre festival for persons with disabilities

Bahrain, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, secured first place for best theatrical performance at the 7th GCC Theatre Festival for Persons with Disabilities, held in Qatar to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event was organised by Qatar's Ministry of Social Development and Family in collaboration with the GCC Council of Ministers of Labour and Social Affairs. Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi, Minister of Social Development, hailed the achievement as a reflection of Bahrain's outstanding artistic talents and affirmed the ministry's dedication to supporting inclusive cultural initiatives. He commended the team's efforts, highlighting their creativity and teamwork, and underscored the importance of such events in showcasing the abilities of persons with disabilities across the GCC. The Bahraini play, “Dubbi's Trial”, presented by Al Bayraq Theatre Group, featured 18 participants, including individuals with disabilities and professional artists. It won the top prize, with jury awards for best decor and scenography, and special recognition for actors Abdulaziz Al Hamri, Haya Faisal, and Hamda Mohammed. Bahrain also received the Innovation and Excellence Award for the Samou initiative, led by the Good Word Society, and recognition for Ayoub Rahma Asad’s creative contributions supporting persons with disabilities. Sadiq Ali Sahwan, Director of Social Rehabilitation and head of Bahrain’s delegation, noted that the performance highlighted social inclusion and cultural engagement. He emphasised the ministry’s commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities and integrating their talents into the cultural scene. The biennial GCC Theatre Festival provides a platform for promoting inclusivity, raising awareness of the capabilities of persons with disabilities, and encouraging creative expression through theatre.

Bahrain marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The High Committee for the Care of Persons with Disabilities organised an event to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities under the theme “United for a Better Tomorrow.” The event was attended by Sahar Rashid Al Mannai, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development, alongside committee members and representatives from relevant organisations. In her remarks, Al Mannai emphasised the importance of the occasion as a platform for collaboration across sectors to empower persons with disabilities and protect their rights. She noted that Bahrain stands as a leading model in providing services to persons with disabilities as part of its comprehensive development process, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the ongoing support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Al Mannai highlighted the National Strategy for Persons with Disabilities as a cornerstone for promoting equality, justice, and equal opportunities. She emphasised the importance of enhancing partnerships among the public, private, and civil sectors to achieve these goals. She highlighted the Ministry of Social Development’s efforts to ensure social security for persons with disabilities through rehabilitative, social, and health services for children and youth. Al Mannai thanked the organisers, particularly Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee (BPC) and Deputy Chairman of the High Committee for the Care of Persons with Disabilities, as well as committee members and all partners and supporters of the event.

Social Development Minister chairs High Committee for the Care of People with Disabilities meeting

The committee reviewed progress on implementing recommendations from its previous meeting and assessed achievements under the National Strategy for Persons with Disabilities. The meeting reviewed updates on the committee’s digital platform and an evaluation of Bahrain’s participation in the 7th Gulf Theatre Festival for People with Disabilities in Qatar. It also discussed strategies for addressing recommendations from the UN report on disability rights and plans for upcoming visits to rehabilitation centres across public, private, and non-governmental sectors. The committee also highlighted the success of Bahrain’s recent celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, organised by the Ministry of Social Development.
