The Kingdom of Bahrain celebrates with all countries of the world on the first of October of each year the International Day of Older Persons, as approved by the United Nations General Assembly in 1990. The United Nations has chosen the title for the theme of this year’s celebration 2022 “Elderly Women’s Resilience and Contribution”, with the aim of highlighting the ability of older women to face environmental, social and economic challenges, as well as enhancing awareness of the importance of their contributions to society while promoting dialogues aimed at protecting the rights of the elderly and recognizing their contributions to sustainable development. On this occasion, the Ministry of Social Development affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is one of the developed countries in the Arab world, regionally and internationally in its strategic vision for care and development services provided to the elderly, in implementation of what was stated in the constitution, and the developments the country is witnessing within the framework of a legislative and legal system that supports the comprehensive development process under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, theking of Kingdom of Bahrain, and the close follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to strengthen the rights systems In accordance with Bahrain's commitments to the international charters and agreements that it has joined to keep pace with the aspirations of the National Strategy for Senior Citizens, in addition to the continuity of providing the necessary capabilities and initiatives that would contribute to raising the quality of life of senior citizens, in order to ensure the provision of health and social care, in recognition of their status in society and their role in building and prospering the Kingdom. Elderly women in the Kingdom of Bahrain have demonstrated their great perceptions and capabilities, as stated in this year's slogan "Elderly Women's Resilience and Contribution", as they presented many bright initiatives that wrote remarkable success stories in society, especially during the pandemic, starting with their initiative to enroll in training courses to learn digital programs and modern technologies in order to enhance their communication with local developments and global developments, similar to the rest of society, leading to the promotion of positive and effective communication with members of institutions and clubs. Day care for parents, numbering (15) homes, whose services benefit more than (1,500) elderly men and women, and work to raise the level of health and social protection, by implementing a number of health initiatives and measures to combat the spread of this virus among the elderly. In the field of empowering and activating the positive life of senior citizens, the elderly women affiliated with these day-care institutions contributed by providing community activities through visual communication channels, through their participation in a number of awareness lectures, in addition to their participation in communicating the needs of the members of these institutions of all kinds and their health needs, as well as their contribution to the initiative of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation entitled "Your Medicines at Your Home", where they had a major role in the delivery of medicines and a number of services to the homes of elderly people of both sexes. The project of day institutions for parents of homes and centers is a pioneering experience that contributed to ensuring psychological and social stability for the elderly and reflected positively on their health, living and psychological levels in line with global developments in order to provide distinguished services to them, with the allocation of an annual budget for these institutions in support of the NGOs concerned with managing these homes and clubs, through which integrated services and comprehensive care for this group are provided during the daytime in the residential neighborhoods in the various governorates of the country, in addition to what the Kingdom of Bahrain provides in terms of shelter and comprehensive care services for senior citizens for whom They need permanent institutional care for both sexes, through the Muharraq Social Care Center, in addition to providing them with all health, social, psychological and living services. In order to provide the best services to senior citizens, the Ministry of Social Development has established a special office for services to the elderly, and works to provide all services and programs concerned with the elderly category to ensure improving their lives and encouraging them to continue giving and benefiting from their experiences. The Ministry of Social Development continues its continuous efforts within the framework of the principle of effective community partnership, in cooperation and coordination with state ministries, relevant official authorities, the private sector and civil society institutions, to provide the best services to senior citizens, create a safe environment and upgrade all services provided to this group, in accordance with international practices and standards in this regard.
