Ministry of Social Development: 45 productive families participated in the Bahraini Farmers’ Market for this year

Mrs. Hana Mohammed Nasser, Director of Centers and Family and Child Development Directorate at the Ministry of Social Development, confirmed that 45 productive families registered with the Ministry participated in the eleventh edition of the Bahraini Farmers’ Market under the slogan “Local Product Champions,” which is held every Saturday at the Botanical Garden in Budayia area. She said that the Ministry of Social Development is keen on the participation of productive families in seasonal exhibitions and local markets to highlight their products, the most prominent of which is the Bahraini Farmers’ Market, which citizens, residents and visitors anticipate annually, noting in this regard that participation comes within the framework of enhancing national culture, demonstrating Bahraini identity and preserving Cultural heritage by presenting traditional, inherited products and crafts. Three basic sections were participated in the farmers’ market this season, which is the “Popular Market” by highlighting home projects for productive families and the “Handicrafts Area” for selling craft products and live training in craft professions such as pottery. Weaving, woodcraft, etc., as well as participating in the “Food Zone” section through live cooking of popular foods and dishes. The Director of Centers and Family and Child Development Directorate continued that the Ministry has provided many attractive facilities for productive families to share their distinguished ideas and projects in the market, enabling them to continue providing their products, as the Ministry is constantly working to create quality training programs and development projects, and to provide headquarters for these families to practice their work. To ensure its development and sustainability, as well as investing in partnerships with all sectors to promote its products, especially since Bahraini productive family projects are witnessing a remarkable development in terms of employing modern technologies, especially in the field of marketing these products via electronic platforms to ensure the expansion of the sales process and their promotion inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain. On the other hand, a number of participants from productive families expressed the importance of participating in the Bahraini Farmers’ Market as it is a platform for marketing Bahraini products and an opportunity to market the local product, especially since the market is witnessing a large public demand. For her part, Zainab Abdul-Jabbar Hassan (owner of the Cook’s Wonders Project) said that her participation in the Bahraini Farmers’ Market is an opportunity to learn about the harvest seasons of some vegetables grown in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which enabled her to innovate new products based on vegetables in the local market, noting the public demand from them. As for Hassan Ali Musa (wicker craft), who is participating in this market for the first time, he expressed his joy in participating and in selling his products made of wicker, which were met with great demand, as he works in this inherited profession, and developed it in a manner that combines modern and traditional. On the other hand, Muhammad Ali Abdul Rahim (pottery making) said that his participation in the market is also the first, and that while he markets his products of distinguished and carefully designed pottery pieces, he conducts live training in the market for those wishing to learn the craft, which is a unique and attractive experience for visitors. Pointing out his keenness to participate in many local and Gulf exhibitions, as he practices the profession of pottery making, which is considered one of the oldest traditional professions. Muhammad Abdel Redha Jaafar (Textile Industry) also praised the level of organization in the farmers’ market, which was able to attract a large audience of citizens and visitors from the Gulf countries, in addition to foreigners residing in the Kingdom of Bahrain, where his participation comes through the sale of textile products, and another section to try out textile weaving for those interested. Among the visitors, he pointed out that he owns a shop in the village of Bani Jamra, which is famous for the textile industry, and has been working in this industry since he was ten years old. Aisha Khalil Ibrahim (the owner of the popular food project) indicated that she participated several times in the farmers’ market, praising the level of organization and the number of facilities that were provided to the participants, especially since her project is concerned with providing various types of popular foods, thus achieving a large percentage of sales, pointing out that her project has won. With the award of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa to encourage productive families for the year 2020 AD, which is Al Haif coffee, the coffee product is displayed in a number of local markets.
