Under the auspices of His Excellency Mr. Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al-Asfoor, Minister of Social Development, the Bahraini Autistic Society organized a ceremony on the occasion of the International Day of Awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder, in the presence of the Undersecretary, Mrs. Sahar Rashid Al-Mannai, a number of members of the House of Representatives, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Society, Mr. Zakaria Al-Sayed Hashem, as well as heads of NGOs, representatives of participating entities, interested parties and invitees. The event aims to educate the public and those interested in autism spectrum disorders, including specialists, parents and children. During the speech delivered by the Undersecretary, she praised the distinguished efforts of the Bahraini Autistic Society, and its community and humanitarian initiatives towards autism patients, which reflect a high awareness of the concepts of community partnership and the responsibility entrusted to civil society institutions as a key partner in the comprehensive and sustainable development process. She emphasized that the participation of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the international community, in celebrating the International Autism Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day is a clear indication of the keenness of the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain to develop and implement plans and programs that would enhance awareness of autism spectrum disorder within the framework of activating the joint responsibility between the various governmental, private and civil sectors. She also said that people with disabilities are an important societal component, we are keen to preserve their rights and develop the level of services provided to them, and benefit from their latent skills and abilities, in addition to activating their role as a productive and important element in community development, praising in this regard the efforts of volunteers who extended their hands to give for free, as they were an example to follow in standing with official and civil institutions in order to provide service to society and the entire country, through an effective partnership in achieving and implementing the goals of sustainable development. She explained that raising awareness of the rate of autism spectrum disorder is the responsibility of everyone, and requires more governmental, community and family efforts to diagnose and early detection of cases, in addition to adopting integrated programs and plans for treatment, rehabilitation and integration into society.
