The Minister of Social Development chairs the first meeting of the National Committee for the Elderly

His Excellency Mr. Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al-Asfoor, Minister of Social Development, chaired the first meeting of the National Committee for the Elderly, in the presence of a number of committee members from various governmental, private and private sectors. At the outset of the meeting, Minister Al-Asfoor affirmed that Bahrain is one of the developed countries in its strategic vision for the care and developmental services provided to the elderly, as Bahrain has witnessed legislative and legal development to raise the quality of life for the elderly and ensure the provision of health and social care for them and preserve their dignity. He also stressed during the meeting the importance of the tasks of the committee identified by the formation decision, which is the first of its kind in the region since the decision to establish it was issued in 1984, by implementing the general policy for elderly care, and strengthening the principles of community partnership between various official, private and civil bodies, with the aim of developing services provided to the elderly, and financing programs and activities that can be directed to them. He pointed out that the National Committee for the Elderly represents the authority responsible for implementing the general policy for caring for this group, as well as preparing the national strategy for the elderly, which is based on development axes, providing health and well-being with age, creating a supportive environment for all ages, upgrading services for this group and integrating them into society, in light of an effective community partnership between the government and private sectors and civil society institutions in order to achieve a decent position for this group in gratitude for what it has provided to the country.
