The National Committee for Childhood in the Kingdom of Bahrain won the Child-Friendly Institutions Award for the year 2022, which was approved by the Arbitration Committee of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, in recognition of its best efforts and initiatives in the field of early childhood. The award aims to encourage institutions concerned with family issues in the Arab region to enhance awareness of the role of the Arab family, in order to embody the important role it contributes to building and cohesive society. It also encourages relevant institutions to promote children's rights by establishing a culture of respect for children's rights, and not to waste their rights under any circumstances, as they are inherent rights guaranteed by international conventions and national legislation. On this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al-Asfoor, Minister of Social Development and Chairman of the National Committee for Childhood, affirmed that the achievements made by the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of childhood came as a result of the Kingdom's interest under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Kingdom of Bahrain, and the tireless efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to achieve more gains and achievements that guarantee the rights of the child, by providing a safe environment for all Bahraini children, and achieving all that they aspire to. In this context, he pointed out that Bahrain is one of the developed countries in promoting children's rights, and that childhood projects have witnessed a quantitative and qualitative change due to the attention and continuous support they received. Minister Al-Asfoor also praised the efforts of the National Committee for Childhood since its establishment in 2007, which includes in its membership representatives of a number of relevant official and civil authorities in Bahrain, aimed at supervising the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child ratified by the Kingdom of Bahrain in 1992, as well as the development of childhood in all its stages of life educationally, culturally and psychologically, to provide an encouraging environment that contributes to the implementation of the principles of protection, care and development of the child, stressing that the Kingdom of Bahrain was keen to join the international conventions that It falls within the framework of protecting and preserving the right of the child, and that the best interests of the child are always the primary consideration in procedures related to the child, pointing out that the formation of the National Committee for Childhood and by a decision of the esteemed Council of Ministers is an affirmation of the Kingdom of Bahrain's interest in childhood, and its desire to advance and improve aspects of comprehensive care provided to children. The General Secretariat had held a meeting of the arbitration committee for its third session of family and childhood-friendly institutions in the Arab region for the year 2022, chaired by a business member of the committee representing the United Arab Emirates, and in the presence of two members of the arbitration committee, the representative of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain, based on the recommendation issued by the 26th session of the Arab Childhood Committee, and the recommendation issued by the 12th session of the Arab Family Committee. And the family, by approving the institutions that have been accredited by the jury of child and family friendly institutions for the year 2022.
