Family Fostering Service
Family custody is the handing over of a child (of unknown father, parents, orphans, or those whose circumstances are similar to these) to a Bahraini family to take care of and shelter him and take responsibility for his upbringing. Foster family: It is a family that delegates the state to take care of a child who does not have the normal conditions for care and attention since his birth.
- A good & valid Bahraini family, unmarried, divorced, or widow woman, or her husband is absent, intermittently.
- The spouses or the applicant's age for the fostering must be between 25 years and not more than 50 years.
- Physical, psychological and mental health.
- Moral and social maturity.
- Good conduct and behavior.
The family custody committee may add or exclude any condition that guarantees the best interests of the child and does not conflict with the provisions of the decree of the family custody law No. (22) of 2000.
- The fostering applications request form.
- A copy of the card reader’s statement for the applicant (couple).
- A recent salary certificate for the applicant (couple).
- A copy of the marriage document.
- Medical checkups.
- Medical examinations for the following infectious diseases (CBC,ESR - FBS , HbAIC ,BBIO-CHE - VDRL - HIV - HEP B - MRSPA-Nasal , Groin ,AXILLA - HCV).
Those applying for fostering should submit a written application to the Social Care & Rehabilitation Sector at the Ministry of Social Development, supported with the substantiating documents indicating the fulfillment of the conditions provided for by Decree-Law No. 22 of 2000 regarding family custody.
Supervision and follow-up of the custodial parent:
The family custody committee, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Development, supervises and follows up on foster families to ensure the following:

The foster family commitment to the proper care and accommodation of the child.

The custodial parent's commitment to the decisions of the Family Care Committee and the Ministry of Social Development.

Providing a suitable environment for the child's development.

Implementing all laws, decisions and directives issued in this regard.
Supervision and Follow-up Procedures:

The Ministry of Social Development must have the right to supervise and follow up the fostered children, which right will last for the duration of fostering and until the fostered child reaches the age of maturity.

The foster family is obliged to inform the Ministry of Social Development with any change in their social status or place of residence, and any other changes or conditions that may affect the fostered child.

The follow-up visits to the family must be determined according to the age of the fostered child and its adaptability with the family. These visits must be intensified if it is found that there is a problem . The visits will continue until the condition of both the child and family become stable.

The social researcher must supervise the fostered child and follow up the care provided to him/her by the foster family with regular visits.
